DJI Tello
DJI Tello otherwise known as the Ryze Tello is a new collaboration project between drone giants DJI and Shenzhen based tech company Ryze Tech. Together they have managed to pack all of the great DJI tech in to a great little beginner drone costing only £99 ($99), making it the most affordable and accessible DJI drone to date. This is truly marketed as a beginner drone that comes bundled with some fun flight features and even a 5 megapixel camera.
Tello packs in a 13 minute flight time and 720p HD transmission and 100 metre image transmission. It also features palm launch, bounce mode and even 8D flips for the more adventurous flyer. In terms of photo and video the Tello is setup to capture and share them straight from your phone. It features some cool intelligent flight features like circle, 360 and up and away, allowing you to capture awesome looking footage in the touch of a button. Although the camera setup lacks a gimbal for the camera, it does come bundled with electronic image stabilisation to compensate.
Weighing only 80 grams Tello boasts some great tech. Amazingly for the Tello’s tiny price tag it still comes with collision detection, failsafe protection and vision positioning system for safe landings. A great additional feature for budding programmers and robotics enthusiasts is the ability to program flight paths with popular beginner programming language Scratch.
Tello is controlled using the accompanying Tello app, but compatible 3rd party Bluetooth remote controllers can be used to give a more tactile flight experience.
Comparisons are being made to the Parrot Mambo drone featuring a similar price tag and features but the Mambo also offers some fun attachments like a ball canon and grabber arm.
