World Renowned filmmaker Philip Bloom gives his opinion of the DJI Spark in his latest video review. He is a professional filmmaker and has been for a long time, so the Spark is never going to be something that he uses in his professional work. But he is certainly no snob when it comes to tech, he has inspired a whole generation of filmmakers to shoot professional looking video with tools that are affordable and widely available.
What makes his opinion so important is that he has a profound knowledge of camera equipment and is an avid drone user. He personally owns and shoots on a DJI Phantom 4 Pro, Mavic Pro and Inspire 1 X5 Raw. This means he can really understand and articulate the capabilities of the Spark in comparison to other drones on the market.
“Its the most fun i’ve ever had flying a drone”
The great thing about the review is that he shot the entire thing on the Spark itself using a separate lav mic for audio. Being a serious filmmaker he is out shooting with 6 batteries and using the Fly More Bundle, so the review is really in-depth and insightful. Its a joy to watch him control the Spark, turning off the obstacle avoidance and flying it through some tight spaces to create some truly incredible footage.
He gives a fantastic insight in to what shooting features are available and really puts the Spark to the test in terms of manual flying and low lighting conditions. He gives his suggestions on where he feels the Spark could be improved in firmware and for the next iteration. He has stated that he feels the Youtube compression may have created some pixelation and lag in his video review, alternatively you can see it on Vimeo here.
You can read the written accompaniment to the review here on his blog. We love the work he does, if you love it and want to see more then be sure to follow him.
